Speaker:

Dr Zhang Hao Lin
Associate Professor and Associate Chief Physician
Research Director, Beijing Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Reproduction
Peking University

Moderator:

Professor Zhang Zhang-jin
Director, School of Chinese Medicine, HKU

Abstract:

Reproductive endocrine disorders remain major barriers to women’s fertility and long-term health. Drawing on research conducted within China’s top-ranked reproductive medicine programme, this seminar presents traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) interventions through a “seed-soil-environment” framework encompassing ovarian function, endometrial receptivity, and the systemic metabolic environment. She will introduce standardised TCM protocols and evidence from domestic and international multicentre studies. Her research focuses on polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), spanning AI-assisted early diagnosis, digital health management, and biofeedback-guided interventions. Clinical findings are further translated into molecular target identification and new drug development, while robotic acupuncture is being explored to improve treatment precision, consistency, and reproducibility. Together, these efforts establish an evidence-based, digitally enabled, and scalable TCM research programme for reproductive endocrine care.

About the Speaker:

Dr Hao-Lin Zhang is an Associate Professor and Associate Chief Physician at Peking University, and Research Director of the Beijing Institute of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Reproduction. Her research advances evidence-based TCM interventions for reproductive endocrine disorders, particularly polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS). She leads domestic and international multicentre trials of acupuncture, develops AI-enabled non-invasive diagnostic and digital management tools, and translates clinical findings into therapeutic targets and new drug development. She also leads PUTH NutriCare, an AI-supported lifestyle intervention platform used across hospitals, and collaborates on robotic acupuncture systems to improve treatment standardization and scalability. Drawing on extensive clinical practice, she connects patient needs with clinical validation, technological innovation, and translational research in practice.
