Abstract:

Evidence-based medicine (EBM) was born to help clinical decision by incorporating the best evidence, clinical expertise and experience, together with patient value and preference. This concept has been widely accepted in health care, education, pharmacology, nursing, and traditional medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is widely used in clinical practice, which need to be evidence-based through scientific evaluation of its therapeutic effect and safety. This speech will address the application of EBM methods in the generation of evidence, evidence-based practice, and evaluation of TCM therapies to support their clinical use. It will also discuss the advances of developing clinical practice guidelines and some of the challenges in research methodology. Some of the examples of validated therapies of TCM will be referred from international recognized journals.
