“The 3rd The University of Hong Kong - Peking University Chinese Medicine and Integrative Medicine Summit” was successfully concluded, attracted numerous scholars, Chinese Medicine practitioners, doctors, medical related professionals and industry experts to attend. The summit was one of the 25th Anniversary Celebration Events of the School of Chinese Medicine (HKUSCM), LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed). 17 scholars from HKU and Peking University were invited to share their insights, initiatives and researches on the latest development on Chinese Medicine and Integrative Medicine.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Professor Lo Chung Mau, Secretary for Health, Hong Kong SAR Government, Ms Lynn Lee, Deputy Director-General, Coordination Department, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Professor Lau Chak-sing, Dean of HKUMed, Professor Qiao Jie, Executive Vice President, Peking University; President, Peking University Health Science Center; Member, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Han Jingyan, Chairman, Department of Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine, Peking University Health Science Center and summit co-chair, Professor Feng Yibin, Director of the School of Chinese Medicine, HKUMed and summit co-chair and Dr Ng Chi Sun, Assistant Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development/ Consultant Chinese Medicine Practitioner, Health Bureau, Hong Kong SAR Government.

The summit covered contents including the wisdoms and strategies from Chinese Medicine for prevention and treatment of complicated diseases, scientific connotations in Chinese Medicine theory, etc. Keynote speakers included Professor Han Jingyan and Professor Feng Yibin. Speakers from Peking University included Professor Li Dong, Deputy Director, Department of Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine, Peking University Health Science Center, Dr Meng Yufeng, Attending Doctor, Peking University People's Hospital, Professor Zhang Xuezhi, Deputy Director, Department of Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine, Peking University Health Science Center, Professor Feng Cuiling, Director, Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Peking University People's Hospital, Dr Liu Jian, Assistant Professor, Department of Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine, Peking University Health Science Center, Dr Xue Dong, Chief Physician, Department of Integrative Medicine and Geriatric Oncology, Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute and Professor Han Shuyan, Professor, Department of Integrative Medicine and Geriatric Oncology, Peking University Cancer Hospital & Institute.

The summit has set up an important platform for interdisciplinary exchanges and discussions between the academia and the industry. Participants expressed that the presentations have given them more insights about the innovations, potentials and directions of the integration of Chinese and Western medicine and the modernization of Chinese medicine.
