It is my great pleasure, on behalf of the School of Chinese Medicine, The University of Hong Kong to cordially invited you to attend the 13th Pong Ding Yuen (to be referred as “PDY” in subsequent paragraphs) International Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine: Interdisciplinary and Translational Research cum the 25th Anniversary of the PDY Endowment Fund for Education and Research in Chinese-Western Medicine at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, HKU. This year, we are honored to welcome numerous distinguished guests, experts and renowned scholars from various regions, as well as industry representatives, teachers, students, and other participants to join this meaningful event.

Since its establishment in 2000, the PDY Endowment Fund for Education and Research in Chinese-Western Medicine has generously supported the School’s international academic exchanges, research initiatives and talent development. The Fund has made significant contributions consistently to the development of Chinese medicine and integrative medicine and in teaching, research and clinical areas, benefiting local and international communities.

Since the fund was founded, the School has successfully organized 12 symposia, attracting over 6000 attendances; 75 seminars in PDY Seminar Series, with more than 5200 attendances. Additionally, over 530 students have benefited from the Field Trips for Bachelor of Chinese Medicine, and 44 PDY Chinese Medicine prizes have been awarded to outstanding students.

To mark this important milestone—the 25th anniversary of the PDY Endowment Fund for Education and Research in Chinese-Western Medicine, the Symposium features a dedicated Plenary Session alongside the exhibition, highlighting the Fund’s unwavering support for the modernization and internationalization of Chinese medicine and the development of Chinese-Western medicine.

This year we will address key topics under the theme of “Interdisciplinary and Translational Research” We look forward to the fruitful interactions among the participants that will foster the spirit of knowledge exchange, strengthen collaborations, and inject impetus to the sustainable development of the education and research of Chinese medicine and integrative medicine.

I would like to express my wholehearted thanks to the Pong’s family for its steadfast support over the years, as well as the guests, speakers and participants for their enthusiastic contributions and participation. We trust that all participants will find the talks and discussions at this symposium engaging and enriching, and that they will leave with valuable insights to inform their future endeavors.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee and Academic Committee, I would like to extend my warmest welcome to you for attending “The 13th Pong Ding Yuen International Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine: Interdisciplinary and Translational Research cum the 25th Anniversary of the Pong Ding Yuen Endowment Fund for Education and Research in Chinese-Western Medicine.”

This Symposium is organized by the School of Chinese Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, and sponsored by the Pong Ding Yuen Endowment Fund for Education and Research in Chinese-Western Medicine. It is a privilege for our School to host this symposium, co-organized by the Consortium for Globalization of Chinese Medicine, the Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine, the Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association, the School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University, the School of Chinese Medicine at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and The Federation of the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Chinese Medicines Traders Association.

With the theme of “Interdisciplinary and Translational Research,” the Symposium aims to address several key topics, including translational studies of Chinese medicines, mechanistic and clinical studies of acupuncture and TCM exercises, Chinese medicine approach to treat mental disorders, and its approach to neurodegenerative diseases.

Through the Symposium, we strive to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, encourage constructive knowledge exchange, and nurture the new generation of talents in Integrative Medicine and Chinese Medicine.
