Abstract
Recent Basic and Translational Research on the Traditional Chinese Medicine Lycium Barbarum

Lycium Barbarum belongs to the category of plants that can be used for both food and medicine. Lycium Barbarum extract (LBE) has highly effective anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, and its good safety profile makes it a beneficial supplement to various Traditional Chinese Medicine prescriptions. In animal models, LBE has been shown to improve visual function, alleviate emotional disorders, relieve Parkinson's-like behavioural impairments, and improve cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer's disease. LBE is a potential candidate for the development of drugs for neurodegenerative diseases.
