Biography

Dr Wang Yifu is a conservation social scientist interested in understanding different dimensions of human-wildlife interactions. By using multi-disciplinary methods, she aims to simultaneously advance nature conservation and human well-being. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. She earned her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Cambridge, focusing on the social science of pangolin trade in China, and her B.Sc. in Environmental Biology from McGill University with first-class honors. Her research centers on wildlife trade, traditional Chinese medicine demand, human-wildlife coexistence, and urban ecology, with a special focus on pangolins and other threatened species used in medicinal products. She also acts as Co-Chair of the East Asia Region, IUCN SSC Pangolin Specialist Group, and holds editorial roles in conservation journals. Her work bridges policy, practice, and social science to support balanced, evidence‑based solutions for wildlife protection and traditional Chinese medicine development.
