Abstract


Acupoint Stimulation for Postpartum Lactation: A Wildlife-free Alternative to Pangolin with Evidence-based and Data Mining Perspectives



Postpartum hypogalactia is a common condition that may compromise successful breastfeeding. Pangolin scales were historically used in traditional medicine for lactation disorders; however, pangolins are critically endangered, and no reliable clinical evidence supports their specific therapeutic efficacy. Consequently, sustainable wildlife-free alternatives are urgently needed.

This presentation examines acupoint stimulation, including acupuncture, moxibustion, acupressure, and auricular therapy, as a potential alternative for postpartum lactation support. Frequently applied acupoints, such as CV17, ST18, and SI1, are used to regulate qi flow and facilitate milk secretion. Contemporary studies and recent systematic reviews indicate that acupuncture-based interventions may improve lactation outcomes and increase serum prolactin levels.

In addition, an ongoing data mining project will be presented to identify core acupoints, treatment combinations, and evidence patterns derived from randomized controlled trials. By integrating traditional knowledge with modern analytical methods, acupoint stimulation may offer an evidence-based, ethical, and wildlife-free strategy for postpartum care.
