On behalf of the Organizing and Executive Committee, you are cordially invited to attend the 9th Pong Ding Yuen International Symposium on Traditional Chinese Medicine - Chinese Medicine for Mental Health: from Bedside to Bench, which will be held at Cheung Kung Hai Conference Centre, Li Ka Shing (LKS) Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, HKSAR, PRC in December 5-6, 2015.

This Symposium is organized by LKS Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong and sponsored by Pong Ding Yuen Endowment Fund for Education and Research in Chinese Medicine. It is a great honor for the School of Chinese Medicine, the University of Hong Kong to host this Symposium, with the support of the Department of Psychiatry, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Association for Integration of Chinese-Western Medicine (HKAIM), the Hong Kong College of Psychiatrists, Specialty Committee of Mental Diseases of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), Sleep Medicine Specialty Committee of WFCMS, and Chinese Medicine Psychology Specialty Committee of WFCMS.

With the theme “Chinese Medicine for Mental Health”, the Symposium will cover the following topics:

a) Psychopharmacology of herbal medicine: from genomes to behavior
b) Clinical studies of herbal medicine for psychiatric diseases (mood, anxiety, sleep
  disorders, psychotic disorders, etc.)
c) Acupuncture for common mental diseases: basic and clinical studies
d) TCM body-mind exercise therapies for mental diseases and wellbeing
e) Other TCM therapies used in mental health
f) TCM for dementia: from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease
g) TCM for children and adolescent psychiatric disorders
h) TCM for substance addiction (tobacco, alcohol, drugs and others)
i) Psychological concepts and mental diseases in ancient TCM bibliographies

This Symposium is aimed at bringing clinicians and scientific researchers together to exchange and discuss the role of Chinese medicine in today’s mental healthcare. It will provide a platform for multidisciplinary professionals in psychopharmacology, biological, and clinical psychiatry to share their knowledge and experiences. New ideas in the use of Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of mental diseases will be explored. Internationally renowned scientists, academics and experts in the fields of Chinese medicine and mental health from local Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas will be invited to share their research achievements in the Symposium and your participation by all means will make this event a success.
